The free daily word scramble

Daily Word Scramble is a free online word puzzle: every day you get 18 scrambled words, one at a time, each on a 30-second timer. Rearrange the letters to spell a real word, solve before the clock runs out, and see how many of the 18 you can clear.

It's a daily word puzzle in the spirit of a classic newspaper jumble or anagram game, built for your browser. There's nothing to download, no account to create, and it works on your phone and your computer. A new set of 18 words goes live every day, so everyone plays the same letters — which is what makes sharing your score fun.

If you like word games but want something quick, this is it. Most people finish in a few minutes, which makes it an easy daily habit.

How to play

  1. Read the scrambled letters — they appear as tiles above the answer slots.
  2. Tap or type the letters in the order that spells a real word. You must use every letter exactly once.
  3. Solve before the timer hits zero. Solve in time and you move straight to the next word; run out of time and that word counts as missed.
  4. Keep going through all 18 words, then share your score.

Three buttons help when you're stuck. Shuffle re-mixes the remaining letters. Reveal fills in one correct letter. Hint shows you the first letter. Reveals and hints are limited each day, so spend them on the harder, longer words.

Tips to clear more words

  • Look for common endings first — words often end in -ed, -er, -ing, -ly, or -tion.
  • Group the vowels, then see which consonants fit around them. A word with a lot of vowels is usually built around those.
  • Try prefixes too: re-, un-, pre- and dis- unlock a lot of words.
  • If a word feels wrong, clear it and reshuffle rather than forcing it — a fresh layout often makes the answer jump out.
  • Save your reveals for the longer words near the end, when the letters get harder to hold in your head.
  • Watch the clock, but don't panic: 30 seconds is usually enough once you spot the pattern.

Why a daily word scramble?

A daily word puzzle works because it's small. One set of 18 words a day keeps it quick — most sessions take a few minutes — but the streak gives you a reason to come back tomorrow. And because a new set goes live every day, everyone plays the same 18 words, so your score actually means something to share.

It's also a genuinely good brain warm-up. Unscrambling letters exercises the same word-recognition and pattern-matching you use for crosswords, Wordle and anagram games, in a fraction of the time.

What is a daily word scramble?

A daily word scramble is a free puzzle that gives you a new set of jumbled letters every day. Rearrange the letters to spell a real word before the timer runs out.

How do I play Daily Word Scramble?

Is it free?

Yes. The game is free, runs in your browser, and needs no account or download. It works on your phone and your computer.

Is this the same as Wordle?

No. Wordle has you guess one five-letter word in six tries. A word scramble gives you jumbled letters to rearrange into a word — closer to the classic Jumble puzzle.

Can I play older puzzles?

Yes. Open the archive and pick any past date to replay it for practice. Archive runs do not change today’s score or streak.

What do Shuffle, Reveal and Hint do?

Shuffle re-mixes the letters. Reveal fills in one correct letter. Hint shows you the first letter. Each has a limited number of uses per day.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The game is built for phones and computers — tap the tiles on a touchscreen or type on a keyboard.

What counts as a correct answer?

Any real word that uses all the letters. If the letters can spell more than one word — like “eat” and “tea” — any of them counts.
